Clean diesel power key part of achieving future truck efficiency gains, EPA officials told - Diesel Technology Forum

The actual success in reaching the very first phase of greenhouse fuel and fuel efficiency requirements for heavy-duty vehicles and also the new complex challenges dealing with truck and engine producers in achieving the proposed 2nd phase of regulations had been outlined today during a rulemaking hearing conducted by (epa) environmental protection agency and National Highway Visitors Safety Administration (NHTSA) authorities.

Allen Schaeffer, the Professional Director of the Diesel Technologies Forum, testified at the Chicago, il hearing on behalf of the diesel powered industry. Witnesses included environment, health, industry and technology representatives during the first of 2 national hearings on the Suggested Rulemaking to adopt Phase two of national greenhouse gasoline emission reduction and energy efficiency requirements for moderate and heavy duty trucks. The 2nd hearing is scheduled with regard to August 18th in La.

"Today, manufacturers of commercial vehicles, engines and their components generate the cleanest, safest and many fuel efficient technology on the planet, and over 95 percent of these vehicles are powered through diesel engines. Advances within diesel engine technology will certainly continue to contribute to the overall effectiveness gains of vehicles below this proposed rule. Consequently we expect diesel technologies to remain the primary power-plant regarding commercial trucks into the near future, " Schaeffer said.

"For all parties, the challenge of additional increasing fuel efficiency while keeping or improving environmental, security and productivity of commercial automobiles is as important as it is complicated. To be successful, the final outcome right here must build on the achievement already accomplished in attaining near-zero emissions with this new clean diesel technological innovation, and drive continued development while ensuring that the end tools are highly desired by clients. "

"When finalized these types of rules will join the actual Clean Power Plan, light-duty vehicle efficiency standards since the third key component of the particular Administration's climate change strategy and are expected to contribute considerable greenhouse gas emission cutbacks while helping to advance obligations to the international climate lifestyle.
