China buys Thielert diesel engine company out of bankruptcy

The organization Aviation Industry Corporation associated with China (AVIC) has purchased Thielert Aircraft Engines from bankruptcy in Germany, including it to a stable regarding manufacturers that includes Continental Engines and Cirrus Aircraft.

Ls now has a full family of diesel powered engines. Continental’s 230-horsepower diesel-powered engine certified in December this is now part of a complete group of diesel engines that Ls President Rhett Ross stated will all be marketed underneath the Centurion name. Gasoline motors will continue to be marketed with the O/IO/TSIO moniker, he added.

"All engines, gasoline or diesel engine will be marketed under the Ls Brand and can be ordered completely from our 1-800 number or even website, " Ross mentioned in an email. "We is going to be working over the next couple weeks to better integrate sales as well as support functions so that we are able to operate on a global basis. inch

Thielert (to be recognized in the future as Technify Motors) manufactures 135- and 155-hp diesel engines. Before personal bankruptcy, Thielert mounted a 350-hp diesel prototype engine upon several Cessna 206 aeroplanes. Development was stalled throughout the Thielert bankruptcy. Thielert features a distribution and warranty organization called Centurion that was developed as part of German bankruptcy rules. Both will be under the Technify Motors banner.

Ross states in a special AOPA Preliminary report on diesel technologies in the August issue which his company has secured its future on diesel-engined engines. That also means the organization has staked its upcoming on foreign sales, because it is expected that globally sales of diesel machines will far outpace all those in the United States. That’s another point produced in the special Pilot statement, "Will we all be traveling diesels? “

Observers experienced expected the purchase through AVIC would be completed in Mar, but one industry viewer said Germany wanted to shift cautiously on deals with Tiongkok.

Continental’s 230-hp engine is founded on first-generation SMA technology. The kind certificate says that motor is limited to 12, five hundred feet, but that éminence is expected to quickly improve. SMA shared its diesel powered secrets, but Continental created its own parts for the powerplant. Customers for the engine might be announced at EAA AirVenture 2013.

In 2008 there have been 24 bidders for Thielert, but the economic crisis caused the delay in the sale.
