What’s the finest engine noise ever?

The Mercedes AMG GT S has finally landed. The stuff you know: it's a small, Porsche 911-rivalling two-door, two seat sports car with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 and RWD.

The stuff you probably don't know: the engine's off-throttle backfire shoots out like a whip's crack. Forget the news that it'll come as a Black Series, that it'll go racing, that it looks fantastic and goes like the clappers. This is now the best thing about the AMG GT S. It's positively mad.

AMG has - by the sounds of it - come good on the promise that the new turbocharged 4.0-litre lump will sate hardened fans of naturally aspirated AMG engines. And it certainly sounds like the real deal.
